Established in 1985 as Reynolds Concrete, Flatmade Concrete evolved in 2019 when third generation owner and operator Ben Driskell decided to refocus and rebrand the family business. Although the name changed, the company still maintains the high-quality work that has been their foundation since the beginning. They specialize in decorative concrete for everything from patios and pool decks to driveways, garage and basement floors, and even countertops.

Driskell added, “My grandfather started Reynolds Concrete back in 1985. I worked for him and my dad during my summers off from school. I started out as an apprentice when I was 10 years old back in 1994.”

Driskell was a quick study, learning the entire process of installing concrete, and the ins-and-outs of running every aspect of the business. In 2015, Driskell was able to purchase the company from his grandfather and take over running the day-to-day operations. Since then, he has become adept at adjusting the company to changing times.

“The company had taken quite a hit due to the housing crash, and was ready for rebuilding,” he says. “I began reinvesting in the company. I started adding new trucks and machinery to the fleet and hiring on new talent. We have doubled our client base, while working with only the best custom builders in the area. We are not in this market for volume installs, as our happiness lies in quality. This takes patience and focus, which ultimately has higher labor and material costs that most high-volume builders can’t justify.”

The team also expanded their knowledge and expertise, learning more finishes and more efficient ways to get the basics completed. They have been able to pass their knowledge and experience on to a younger generation and bring in the next era of concrete finishers at Flatmade.

With the changes and updates to their business practices, it was time for a new name and an updated brand. “We teamed up with Haven Media to create the name, Flatmade Concrete, and a new logo to fit our image,” Driskell says.

Driskell added that, “By becoming Flatmade Concrete, we feel the name was really built around us and our image and we think our brand is set to become the best in central Indiana.”

Part of that new brand and image is demonstrating daily that Flatmade Concrete employees take care of their clients.

“We learn what matters most to each client, and cater to their needs,” Driskell says. “We take care of existing home remodels, as well as new custom homes. We truly enjoy transforming entire residential exteriors. Since the remodeling of a home’s entire exterior concrete is rare, we focus mostly on new builds. We aim for perfection, and our attention to detail delivers the best quality for the best built homes.”
